Project Naming Conventions

Project titles generally conform to the following sequence:

Building / Room # ('s) / Department / Space Type / Project Type

These descriptors will be adjusted depending on the needs of the project.

Building Name:

Corresponds to name in space inventory.

Room # ('s):

If a series of rooms is involved, indicate a range from lowest to highest. If a project is on the entire floor or scattered rooms on a floor, indicate the floor, e.g. 2nd floor or the predominant room on the floor.

Department:

Use the Department where the project is being performed. If the Department name and the building name are the same, delete the Department name.

Space Type:

Use KeyWords such as:

  • Lab
  • Classroom
  • Office
  • Auditorium
  • Library
  • Equipment


  • Patient care
  • Mechanical
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Landscape
  • Furniture
Project Type:

Use KeyWords such as:

  • Study
  • Refurbishment
  • Replacement
  • Installation
  • Correction
  • Renovation
  • Addition
  • Construction


  • Analysis, feasibility, master plan
  • Surface or cosmetic upgrad
  • In kind with some upgrades
  • Furniture and equipment
  • Seismic retrofit with limited impacts
  • Conversion, modification, remodel, alterations
  • New construction attached to existing building
  • New freestanding building. (Not used in project name).
